Town Hall Meeting In Zuru Town
Tracka was established to address the critical issues with social and economic development in Nigeria, which is lack of the people inclusion in developmental projects, increasing number of abandoned projects and poor execution of the few projects implemented.
Tracka field officer visited communities in Kebbi to sensitise them on the 2016 constituency projects in the budget and also connect the citizens to their representatives at the National Assembly to drive accountability and service delivery in the state.
At the Kebbi Central Senatorial District, we observed the budgetary provision of N30m construction of a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) at Magarza town, Kalgo LGA kebbi state.
By August 2016, our Field Officer engaged the residents on the project, they were unaware of the project’s existence and encouraged them to monitor the implementation of the project by visiting the project location and engaging their Representative, Hon. Abdullahi Farouk to ensure its delivery. We learnt the residents of Magarza often travel over a river via canoes to a neighbouring community, Kalgo to access health care services.
By September 2016, we held a town hall meeting with residents of Magarza and encouraged them to write letters to their ward representative and the Ministry of Health to inquire the status of the project as captured in the 2016 budget.
The community head reached out to Tracka in January 2017 to confirm the clinic building construction has commenced. We will follow up closely till its completion.
We also visited Zuru, a community in Kebbi South to monitor the implementation of the following projects;
- 41 Nos hand pump borehole in 41 wards: Zuru/Fakai/Sakaba/danko-Wasagu for N61.5m.
- Supply of 8 Nos Toyota Hiace Ambulance for Zuru, Yauri,Dankwo/Wasagu,Shanga,Sakaba ,Fakai and Ngaski for N160m.
- Provision of 71 motorised boreholes in each of the 71 wards in Kebbi south for N710m.
- Complete renovation of Zuru Town Hall, for N155m.
Tracka Officers held a community engagement meeting with residents and the Zuru Emirate Development Association (ZEYA) to provide them with relevant line items in the budget and encouraged them to ensure project delivery through active participation. They wrote a letter to their Representative, Senator Bala Ibn Na’allah requesting an update on the implementation of the projects.
By December 2016, Youth Leader, Nuhu Hussaini informed our field officer the renovation of the Zuru town hall has started, and one Toyota ambulance vehicle has been delivered to Yauri General Hospital. The provision of 71 motorised boreholes has also commenced in Rikoto which is among the 71 wards in Kebbi South. Tracka team will continue to monitor the implementation of these projects to ensure full and proper execution.
