“Only the one who wears the shoe knows where it pinches.”
Since 2014, Tracka has helped citizens demand quality governance from the government. We have done this through holding grassroots sensitization programs, training citizens, advocacy, and putting out information on the state of projects and public facilities meant to serve the people. Currently, Tracka has a presence in 32 states in Nigeria.
Now we want to dive deeper. In addition to the steps we already take to make good governance a reality, we want to give a voice to citizens to talk about how government actions affect their daily lives.
We would be amplifying citizens’ voices in different communities across Nigeria and tell their undiluted and unbridled emotional stories on how the decisions and in-decisions of government affect their quality of life.
Our goal is to make the government see how their actions directly affect citizens’ lives, not view projects as a tool to boost political ambition or enrich themselves and their party loyalists.
In these stories, we also aim to indirectly foster nationhood as we would discover that our lives are more intertwined than we have ever imagined, and the things that unite us are far stronger than the things that divide us.
The plight of Saratu from Dukku in Gombe mirrors the plight of Dasaam from Quan-Paan in Plateau or Ehi from Warri in Delta. Our stories connect us all, and we hope we realize that we all suffer from the same cancer of bad governance, though context and cultures may differ.
Elected representatives should always listen to the voices of their constituents to understand how to serve them better, and if they fail to, we will bring the voices to their doorstep. We will be publishing stories that reflect this in the coming days and hope you join us on this journey by reading, watching, and amplifying the stories.
Our ultimate goal remains – Public funds must work for the people.
