One of the issues we try to resolve is the lack of access to public document as the budget. At Tracka, we empower citizens by providing simplified information to facilitate engagement with the government officials.
Our work has spread to the Delta Communities, to observe the 2015 zonal constituency projects. With over 30 tracked projects in the state, we noticed a high number of ongoing works and a few undone ones.
For example, our team visited the Ukpude community one of the 12 clans (Araya, Ewokpoka, Edherie, Aviara, Sapele, Abero, Ekreegbesi, Egbeme, Okpare, Okpawa and Ughell-Aviara ) in Isoko South local government area.
As at April, work has not started at the Aka Primary Community School, our interaction with the school management shows the lack of project awareness. They iterated the importance of the school to the pupils of the community that only had access to two primary schools in the entire neighborhood.
The school is in dire need of more classrooms, and the old buildings yearn for rehabilitation. The unconducive learning environment is responsible for the increasing rate of illiterate youths and unemployed adults in the town, therefore, diminishing the progress, growth, and development of Ukpude community.
A society full of unengaged citizens is a looming disaster for the state and national system.
The Ukpude community head, Mr. Goodluck Odogun has done some work to drive development to the community, and our team has reached out to engage him and other community members, to sensitize them about related projects and how to ensure their implementation.
We will not relent efforts on harnessing this advocacy, there will be further discussions with the community heads and their Representatives at the National Assembly to ensure the school project gets executed and is functioning.
