The constructed motorised borehole
Unguwan Liman is a community in Kangiwa, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi state, with a population of about 10, 000 people who do not have access to potable water. Water which is a source of life has become scarce for the community members as the recently constructed borehole in the town only works for two days in a week. The provision of a solar borehole with the overhead tank in Kebbi north senatorial district was a constituency project initiated by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi for N20 million.
“The contractor used an existing well, constructed a shabby tank and installed a submersible pump in the well instead of solar powered borehole. I am surprised to see such construction as a 2017 constituency project because the work was substandard, and the materials used were of low quality”, said Imam Ibrahim Kangiwa, a prominent member of the community.
The community members are not happy with the project despite the fact that water has been their major challenge. They reasoned that such construction, which is aimed at serving the masses should not have been constructed shabbily.
“The project was meant to serve the masses, but they have just constructed the borehole to siphon public fund because the standard does not reflect the amount appropriated”, a community member who pleaded anonymity told Tracka.
In a related development, members of Unguwan Liman community applauded the Tracka team for coming to sensitize them on the construction of constituency projects despite the distance of the community from the capital city of Birnin Kebbi.
