Tracka is a citizen-driven platform that empowers citizens with relevant budgetary information to enable them monitor projects in their area and ensure quality service delivery. The Field Officer in Delta State, Andrew Ebigwu accompanied by Tracka’s Project Officer, Kehinde Babatunde visited Aperhe-Olomu Community in Ughelli South on Thursday 23rd November, to engage residents on the FG’s plan in 2016 budget provisions- which include: Installation of a transformer in Aperhe-Olomu for N10 million.
The meeting commenced at 12:05 pm with an opening prayer held by Elder David Ikpesu, the president general Chief Robinson Obrogor welcomed tracka team at the community hall and about 55 people were present at the meeting.
Ms Kehinde explained the importance of engaging their elected representative at the National Assembly and monitoring public projects in their area to ensure improved service delivery. She enlightened the residents of Aperhre-Olomu on the provisions as they were unaware of the project’s existence before the meeting.
A community leader, Elder Okoyoyo mentioned the installation of the transformer would boost economic and social activities in the area as the entire state, Delta had a constant power shortage which has impacted the living conditions of the residents.
The people highlighted a few abandoned projects around like the completion of a primary health centre, Construction of Primary school (funded by NDDC) and Construction of perimeter fence and library in the secondary school. Some of these projects they claim have been abandoned for over six years.
They also asked on how their most pressing needs such as the Construction of road from Ewu-Omolu, Akperhe- Olomu to warri and Youth & widows empowerment programme will be captured in the next budget.
Tracka officials advised they engaged their representatives in the National Assembly and requested to be included in the next budget-making process to ensure it reflects the people’s interest.
The meeting ended by 1:15 pm with a vote of thanks by the President and People of the community who have promised to follow up the project to ensure its implementation.
